*I will be on maternity leave and unable to take on new clients November 2020***

I specialise in working with children who stammer, but I also work with speech sound difficulties. I have experience in carrying out a range of therapies.

Stammering assessments will usually take up to two hours which includes a separate case history with parents. This is to ask in depth questions regarding the nature and origins of the stammer and formulate a therapy plan based on the individual factors involved. Parents do not cause stammering but are central to the therapy process.

Depending on the age of the child/young person, language or speech assessments will also be carried out if necessary.

I am trained to deliver the following therapy methods to assist with stammering:

2 to 7 year olds:

Lidcombe Therapy, Palin Parent Child Interaction therapy (PCI) and VERVE therapy – These three types of therapy are delivered by the parents of the children who stammer under the guidance of the SLT.

7 to 12 year olds:

Family Communication Skills Therapy – parents and child have targets to work on in the home environment.

Solution focused brief therapy – can be given in either parent and young person sessions or 1:1 young person only sessions.

Cognitive behaviour therapy – can be given in either parent and young person sessions or 1:1 young person only sessions.

Integrated fluency shaping and speech modification approaches – this area includes identification and awareness of stammering behaviours and specific stammering techniques which can be given in either parent and young person sessions or 1:1 child only sessions.

I am able to work in client’s home at weekends only currently. I strive to support families in functional, practical ways, led by the needs and wishes of the young person and their wider network of family.
